Albannach was a game that I GMed in the early to mid 1990s, starting work on it when I was studying for my M.Sc. It
wasn't my first attempt at a role-playing campaign, but it was the first that had internal consistency - rather than being a hodge-podge of stuff
that seemed cool at the time - and the first that ran for a reasonable length of time before running out of steam. I designed my own simple
rules system for it; it worked but it did have some oddities - including the little quirk that earned it the nickname of Fishing - the
role-playing game. I wanted to give the game a feeling of self-subsistence, but I may have overdone the realism a bit regarding the number of
dice-rolls need to catch a fish - or watch it get away...
